The French automaker Renault plans to start drone production in Ukraine, as confirmed after the announcement by France’s Minister of the Armed Forces, Sébastien Lecornu.

Initially, the company will collaborate with small and medium-sized companies in the French defense sector, with the intention of later establishing factories directly on Ukrainian territory. Renault confirmed that it received the request from the French government but stated it has not yet made a final decision.

The plan foresees that the drones produced will be intended for both the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the French army. The minister also pointed out that companies linked to France’s defense industry are already operating in Ukraine. This move is part of a broader strategy by the French government to involve the civilian industrial sector in adapting production lines to meet the growing demand for military equipment.

Within this strategy, representatives from the automotive sector have already been invited to collaborate on the development of “kamikaze” type drones, currently used in the Ukrainian conflict.

The goal of the French authorities is to reach the production of thousands of these devices within a few months, indicating an increasing militarization of the automotive industry in the country, and possibly Renault’s role as a key player in this transformation.
